ABOUT ATL

Alianza Translatinx is the first transgender-led organization by transgender people of color in Orange County, CA.

We were born out of the necessity to create and promote inclusiveness for the transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) community in Orange County (OC) in California. During the global COVID-19 pandemic which exacerbated the challenges and needs of the TGNC community, Alianza Translatinx was founded by four transgender Latinx women: Khloe Rios-Wyatt, Cinthya Espinosa, Rachel Pozos, and Leslie Jimenez. Our leadership, which is representative of the people we serve, worked voluntarily during the first two years to help improve the quality of life for transgender and gender- nonconforming people of color in OC.

Through education, community empowerment, and social justice Alianza Translatinx advocates to uplift the TGNC community members to ensure and foster community inclusion and unity. ATL began by assisting the houseless TGNC community in Santa Ana through distributing hot plates of food on a weekly basis during the highest peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Even before COVID-19 however, the TGNC community in OC was already in a state of crisis and with the arrival of the pandemic Alianza Translatinx began to focus on areas that needed urgent attention, such as: access to comprehensive, culturally, and linguistically competent sexual health education and HIV prevention information as well as the provision of other basic services. Within the first two months of being established Alianza Translatinx began to curate services and programs that respond and pivot to community needs and which provide an array of services to TGNC people of color including health education, linkage to care, gender marker and name change supporting services, and referrals to medical services.

  • Solutions-Oriented: We approach all challenges with curiosity, solving problems holistically with all parties in mind so that we may continually improve our policies, practices, and services.

    Community-Centered: Our work is co-developed with community and is responsive to emerging issues.

    Efficiency: We approach our work with a mindset of focus, quality and resourcefulness to achieve our objectives in a timely manner.

    Accountability: We are responsible for our work and take pride in both successes and opportunities to learn.

    Wellness: Care for ourselves and each other is a priority to our mission. It is an act of revolution to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

  • Commitment to Our People: “Our people” encompasses both our community served and our Alianza Translatinx team. We demonstrate their value by treating everyone with dignity, respect and we consider our peoples' futures in decision-making.

    Foster Success: Our express goal is to materially improve the quality of our people’s lives. We do this by “teaching people how to fish;” our programs are user-friendly, human-centered, and facilitate skill-building.

    Professional Development: Alianza Translatinx is the system we work within but we value each individual contributor. We have a commitment to leadership development and promoting upward mobility.

    Sustainable Growth: Decision-making processes are grounded in organizational health and guided by our strategic plan. We create and uphold systems that are in alignment with our mission, vision, and values.

    Inclusivity: We value and name the cultural expansiveness of our communities and we serve: Latinx/e, Black, Asian, Pacific Islander, Indigenous, and other People of Color in Orange County, CA. We always strive to create a culture that uplifts and represents diverse perspectives, thoughts and values.
